RE: Tar removal (sheesh, it had to be me)

A few years back I had to take my new white service van to a customers site via fresh tar with the small stones. The sides were covered! I used an old bath towel with kerosene and made quick work of it.

RE: ANT/AUX/VCR Switch Box???

I have used Caig DeoxIT on my ham radio gear for many years with excellent results. A bit pricey but worth every penny.

RE: Best truck you ever owned-why?

Had a 1983 Ranger 2.3L, manual trans, long bed, 4X4 for 20.5 years. It only let me down once when the camshaft belt broke. When I traded it for 2003 Dakota it still had the original clutch and I never had the valve cover off the engine. The original battery lasted 11 years. It had two fuel tanks for a total of 30 gallons. 214K when I traded. I would have considered another if the tow ratings were higher.

RE: Low water warning with Cat engine

Be sure that the coolant level in the overflow tank changes with engine temperature. It should rise when the engine is hot (assuming a full radiator) and go back down as the engine cools. If you don't see this changing, check that the radiator cap is tight and in good condition (both rubber seals in good shape)as well as tight hose connections between the radiator and the overflow tank. A leak in this hose will not allow the cooling engine to draw coolant back from the overflow tank.

RE: Record albums to MP3 or Wav files

az99,
When I bought Cool Edit, it was about $60. Since Adobe bought out Syntrillium Software they really built it up as editing software. All the bells and whistles don't interest me but the NR software takes out the pops and clicks beautifully.

RE: Record albums to MP3 or Wav files

I'm using Cool Edit 2000 which can now be purchased as Adobe Audition. The noise reduction software does a phenomenal job on noisy LP's. I've been working through my LP collection in anticipation of getting on the road someday.

RE: GPS Safety Factor

Had to drive to Welland, Ontario for work this week. My partner brought a Garmin 330 for our trip. It was my first time using a GPS with the audible directions. I was impressed. It knew the difference between "bear right" and "turn right." If you went the wrong way it would sort you out almost immediately. We found gas, restaurants, stores really easily with the unit. I wish it would audibly name the street you were to turn on. I think the next model, the 340 does that. However, being a plan my route, use a map kind of guy, after a while I was thinking that the unit was turning me stupid. My partner took the thing off the dash and said to go back to the hotel. No way! Where am I? Always have a map for backup!

RE: Built in Remote Garage opener (new GM truck)

Most modern garage door opener receivers have a program mode that is used to recognize the transmitter coding. While in this mode for a specific amount of time, the transmitters are activated to be added to the receiver. Perhaps your program mode needs all the transmitters to be re-registered. I have two remotes but their use was not affected when I used program mode to add my Dakota's console transmitter. Do you have the receiver manual? There should be a specific sequence of steps you'll need to perform.

RE: Have to hit Back button twice

Here's some additional info after messing around a bit. I tried accessing some of the other portals without experiencing the problem. However I was not logged in. If I log in and my preferences take effect, the problem reoccurs on any portal. I did notice that the unlogged-in topics per page is shorter than my 40 per page chosen in preferences. I changed my topics per page back to 20 and the problem goes away. The offending link is not present in the shorter page. There is an "Ads by Google" link present but not the offending one. The offender has a fancier script. At 20 topics per page there are only two ad breaks, but there are three ad breaks at 40 topics per page. When you have the third ad break present the problem returns. For now I'm leaving my page at 20 topics and will see how it goes.

RE: Have to hit Back button twice

I'm having the same problem. It's been happening for a couple of days now. Near as I can figure, it happens after a page that has the advertisement break with "Ads by Google". The URL that gets in the Go Back list is really long. http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/ads?client=ca-pub ...etc. etc. etc. If you go to the URL nothing happens but you get a 404 page in the back list.
I'm running XP and IE6 SP2.
